The statue is really big, being 73.5 meters long, 19.3 meters wide, and 20.22 meters high. It is the biggest statue in the world that is made from one piece of rock, and it is also the world’s oldest huge statue. Most people think that the Sphinx was built for a king named Khafra, and that the face on the statue is the face of the king. But, there is still a lot we don’t know about the Sphinx, like how it got its name, which in English means “Terrifying One” or “Father of Dread”. Despite the mystery, the Great Sphinx is very famous all over the world. It looks like a lion with a man’s head and is a symbol of ancient Egypt.
