Places you must Visit in Algeria

As someone who loves to visit unique places, I was immediately drawn to Algeria when I arrived in Algiers, the country’s capital and one of the oldest cities in the Mediterranean. Algeria has been difficult for tourists to visit for a long time because of strict bureaucracy and government concerns about safety due to past conflicts. However, even though Algeria’s civil war ended over twenty years ago, Islam believes that his country is not yet ready for mass tourism. This only made me more interested in visiting Algeria’s top attractions before it becomes a more popular destination. Algeria will eventually become more mainstream, with a new Visa on Arrival that makes it easier than ever to enter the country (this visa can be obtained by anyone traveling to the Sahara Desert as part of their tour).

My guide  showed me the “Milk Bar” cafe in Algiers, the capital of Algeria. It was the first place to be bombed during the war. Algiers has a long and difficult history, but it’s important for visitors to learn about it. The city has been influenced by many different cultures over the past 1000 years, including the Phoenicians, Romans, Byzantines, Ottomans, and French. The Kasbah is the historic heart of Algiers, and it’s an ancient fort with narrow streets and traditional white houses. It’s a reminder of Ottoman rule and the scars of Algeria’s long war with France can still be seen there. Modern Algiers is very different from the Kasbah, with wide streets and big buildings that show the influence of French colonial rule.

Constantine is an ancient city located on a plateau in northeastern Algeria. It’s been around for over 2,500 years and is known for its spectacular views of deep gorges and ravines. The city has many bridges, some dating back to the Roman era. Constantine was originally called Cirta and was once the capital of an ancient kingdom. It has been ruled by the Romans, Byzantines, and Ottomans. The Emir Abdelkader Mosque and the Palace of Ahmed Bey are examples of Islamic architecture that you can see in the city. The Cirta National Museum showcases archaeological finds from the Roman and Byzantine periods.

Djémila is a place that was built by the Romans a very long time ago. It used to be called Cuicul and was a place where soldiers lived. Djémila has many beautiful buildings that were made by the Romans and are still there today. Some of these buildings are a big stage for plays, some big rooms where people used to have meetings and some big gates that were made to celebrate important people. The ruins of Djémila are very special because they are still in very good condition and show how the Romans built their cities a long time ago. Djémila also has a museum where you can see beautiful pictures made out of little pieces of glass. These pictures show us what life was like a long time ago in Djémila. Even though Djémila is a very special place, there are not many people who visit it. If Djémila was in Europe, there would be many tourists, but in Algeria, where it is, there are not so many.

Taghit is a beautiful town located at the edge of the Grand Erg Occidental in the Algerian Sahara. It is surrounded by huge sand dunes and is a very peaceful place. People like to visit Taghit to have fun and enjoy different activities such as climbing sand dunes, riding camels, racing quad bikes, and even sandboarding. One of the most interesting things to see is the prehistoric rock art, which is an hour’s drive from Taghit. These paintings show pictures of animals and people that are thousands of years old.

Ahaggar National Park is located in southern Algeria and is home to the Hoggar Mountains. It is a beautiful place with a lot of natural wonders that covers an area of about 450,000 square kilometers. The park has high mountains, deep valleys, and vast plateaus that offer an awe-inspiring view. It is famous for its geological formations and rich biodiversity, with many unique plants and animals that live in the harsh desert environment. The park is also significant for the Tuareg people, who are a nomadic Berber community known for their culture, crafts, and deep understanding of the desert.

Annaba is a beautiful city located on the coast of northeastern Algeria. More than 90% of Algerians live on the coast. Annaba is known for its lovely beaches and Mediterranean climate. The city has a long history that dates back to the time of the Phoenicians. Later, it was developed under Roman rule. The most important historical site in Annaba is the ruins of Hippo Regius, an ancient city that played a significant role in the early days of Christianity. Saint Augustine, who was a bishop in the 5th century, is famously associated with it. The Basilica of St Augustine, which overlooks the city, is a tribute to his life and work.
